XXX_MACHINA -
ABOUT
XXX Machina is an ongoing practice-through-research project by Erin Robinson investigating the entanglements of artificial intelligence, eroticism, and digital embodiment. Operating across installation, critical theory, and algorithmic experimentation, the project explores how machinic systems deform desire, fracture identity, and produce unstable forms of synthetic intimacy.
At its core is a large-scale computational installation in collaboration with Anthony Frisby that functions as an "autonomous desire machine," recursively generating deepfake imagery, 3D renderings, and AI-constructed video content of the artist from a custom dataset of prompts scraped from AI pornography platforms. As it reprocesses the libidinal residues of its own output, the machine constructs unstable visual lineages: warped anatomies, ghosted repetitions, and fractured subjects.
Alongside this central installation, XXX Machina extends into written research and experimental digital works. It explores questions of machinic agency, synthetic representation, and the shifting architectures of sexual representation in the age of generative AI. Drawing on psychoanalysis, feminist theory, and posthuman philosophy, the project situates synthetic desire as a distorted reflection of human longing.
